CHEMISTRY BS PROGRAM

General Information About the Program

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Chemistry Department of Faculty of Arts & Sciences has been founded in 1986. Our outstanding academic staff have been successfully continuing research and education activities in the fields of physical chemistry, organic, analytical, biochemistry, and inorganic chemistry, plus a significant number of interdisciplinary fields. Our well recognized academic staff have been teaching the basic scientific knowledge as well as contemporary improvements in their research field. We would like to transfer our extraordinary achievement in our postgraduate (MS / PhD) programs to the B.S. Chemistry Program, which was paused in 1998 but has been re-activated as of the 2020-2021 academic year (*).

Education

The B. S. Degree in Chemistry prepares students for careers as professional chemists and serves as a foundation for careers in other fields such as biology and medicine. The curriculum offers a thorough fundamental knowledge of the major fields of chemistry, covering the general areas of organic, physical chemistry and inorganic, plus many more specialized courses including analytical, computational, and chemical biology. Students gain laboratory experience in organic and inorganic synthesis, analytical methods, physical chemical measurements, spectroscopy, and chemical methods in nuclear technology. Undergraduates are encouraged to take full advantage of the scientific opportunities available in the department by joining a research group.

Double Major Program

We also offer cross-disciplinary education through promoting a collaborative curriculum with the Physics and Molecular Biology and Genetics departments, where our students can achieve double major degrees from our department, to suit the needs of the evolving 21st-century industry. Do you want to learn more about our double major? Visit the double major websites for Chemistry-Molecular Biology and Genetics or Chemistry-Physics.

Career Opportunities

There are lots of career options for someone with a degree in Chemistry. Careers in Chemistry are in general grouped into four categories: careers in industrial chemistry; academics, government, and careers in related fields. EMU Chemistry graduates always earn prestigious national and international scholarships and are admitted to top graduate programs, institutions and professional schools.

Pedagogical Formation Program

The Department of Educational Sciences carries out the pedagogical formation program determined by the Higher Education Council in order to gain teaching proficiency to students who have been or are studying in programs offered by faculties other than Education faculties. Please Visit the Website.
