Our Mission
The Departments of Physics and Chemistry are dedicated to educating the next generation of scientists, engineers, and scientifically informed citizens through high-quality, research-intensive education in the physical and chemical sciences.
We provide students with a strong foundation in fundamental principles while preparing them to respond to the challenges of a rapidly advancing scientific and technological world. Because many of today’s most important discoveries emerge at the intersection of disciplines, we place strong emphasis on interdisciplinary teaching and research throughout our programs.
Our advanced and specialized courses are designed to help students integrate knowledge across fields, develop critical thinking, and apply scientific understanding to real-world problems. At the same time, we continue to strengthen our research in areas such as gravitation and astrophysics, quantum computing, optical sciences, liquid crystals, biophysics, materials science, photovoltaics, and polymer science.
Through both theoretical and applied research, we aim to advance scientific knowledge, contribute to innovation, and inspire our students to become active members of the global scientific community.
