EMU Ranks 1st in Cyprus and Turkey by Appearing in the 250-300 Band of the Times Higher Education

Times Higher Education (THE), the U.K. based publisher of widely-referenced university rankings in the world, has announced the World University Rankings in the Field of Physical Sciences. Two universities from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and 36 universities from Turkey were included in the ranking, in which a total of 1,227 universities worldwide were evaluated. Making a big leap compared to the previous year, EMU moved up from the 601-800 band to the 251-300 band, hence achieving the first place by a wide margin both in the TRNC and Turkey.

EMU Offers the Best Physical Sciences Education in the Region 

While Koç University and Near East University appeared in the 501-600 band, Atatürk University, Bilkent University, Boğaziçi University, Erciyes University, METU, Sabancı University, Sakarya University, Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University and Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University took their place in the 601-800 band. 4 universities were included in the list across the island of Cyprus. EMU also ranks first among these universities and has been confirmed as the institution offering the best Physical Sciences Education within the region.

13 Performance Indicators Taken into Account

The universities listed in THE Physical Sciences World University Rankings have been evaluated with a consideration of the subjects of Mathematics and Statistics, Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, Geology, Environment, and Earth and Marine Sciences. In the evaluation 13 performance indicators in five categories were taken into account, namely Education: Learning about the Environment (27.5%), Research: Number, Income and Reputation (27.5%), Citations: Research Efficiency (35%), International Outlook: Staff, Students and Research (7.5%) and Industrial Income: Invention (2.5%) ).  Universities that have published less than 500 academic publications in the last 5 years are not included in the evaluation.

EMU's Rise in World Rankings Continues

Despite the fact that more and more universities are joining the THE lists each year, EMU continues to rise rapidly in the world rankings, climbing 300 places in the THE World University Rankings compared to the previous year, and taking its place amongst the top 600 universities in the world. Standing out with its international outlook and citations from the scientific articles it produces, EMU continues to successfully represent the TRNC in world rankings whilst offering quality education to its students.
